WHAT IS EPILEPSY
Epilepsy is a condition where epileptic seizures occur. Epileptic seizures happen because of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The seizures can range from brief ‘pauses’ to stiffening or jerking of the whole body.

HOW LONG DO SEIZURES USUALLY LAST?
Every seizure is different, in some cases seizures can go on for seconds or minutes. But if it is over five minutes seek medical attention. If you have three seizures without a normal period in between indicates a dangerous condition called convulsive status epilepticus.
WHAT CAUSES EPILEPSY?

Epilepsy can be caused by different conditions that affect a person’s brain. Some known causes include:

Brain tumor.
Brain infection, like neurocysticercosis.
Traumatic brain injury or head injury.
Loss of oxygen to the brain (for example, during birth).
Some genetic disorders (such as Down syndrome).
Other neurologic diseases (such as Alzheimer’s Disease).
For 2 in 3 people, the cause of epilepsy is unknown. This type of epilepsy is called cryptogenic or idiopathic.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF SEZIURES
Seizures are classified into two groups.
Generalized seizures affect both sides of the brain.
Focal seizures affect just one area of the brain. These seizures are also called partial seizures.
